Invitation to Haiku

Within an hour after blasting out of the Los Angeles basin, phrases started coming into my head. I knew what they wanted to be; their 5 and 7 syllable forms told me.

I amuse myself through hours at the wheel by playing with those syllables. And there's been no shortage of inspiration, both personal and natural. Here's an example, written as I drove out of California Gold Country on fragrant mountain roads:

Full heart swells upstream
Rebel tears escape the dam
Hot pine dust pure joy

And, of course, I must praise my trusty steed, Ethel....

Columbia Gorge
Whipping whistling howling wind
Ethel is sturdy

I'm aiming for a haiku a day. Will you post your syllable play too?

I'll also post occasional prose accounts of my adventures, along with photos, when I get this Blackberry tethering thing figured out.
